Squares Doodle

This square pattern is based on the carpet at Planet Hollywood and then I used a different pattern for each section! :o)

Most of the designs are already in the Doodle Patterns app! The ones you don’t recognise are mostly taken from carpet designs and I’ll be adding some of them with the next update :o)

Apparently casino carpets in Las Vegas have been quite the inspiration! :o)

A quick doodle where I let Chris draw the string and choose most of the patterns :o)

I really love Blooming Butter, I think it’s a very interesting pattern – easy to draw in simple steps with a great result! :o)

Gallery Photos #1

If you’ve been using the latest version of the Doodle Patterns app you’ll have noticed a new icon in the top left :o) If you’ve tapped it you will have seen some pretty images to help provide inspiration! :o)

Obviously when it went live all of the drawings were mine. Since then I’ve seen new images come in and they’re all so pretty I thought I’d share them here! :o)

These three are all by Berit Christensen :o)

What a lovely selection of drawings :o) If any of these are yours please do leave a comment below and I’ll add your name next to them! :o)

Diva Challenge #154

This week the diva’s challenge was to create a Valentangle – what a lovely word :o)

I really like how this one came out :o) I started by drawing the ever growing hearts and then filled in each section with a different pattern :o)

I realised I have some other heart related doodles I’ve not posted before so here’s two more! :o)

That last one was my first large drawing outside of the book I started learning from! :o)

Carpet Inspired Doodle

The string for this doodle was drawn by my Mother before we came on holiday. The patterns were mostly inspired by the multitude of carpet designs here in Vegas! :o)

Inspirational Photos

Since starting this doodling I’ve found myself looking for patterns all around me. Sometimes a carpet catches my eye, or a wallpaper, or curtains.

At present I’m on holiday in Vegas and I’m taking some rather strange holiday snaps! :o)

Each casino has a different crazy carpet! One of those is a table top pattern under glass! At the spa today they had a whole array of different tile patterns! :o)

I can’t wait to turn some of these into doodle patterns! :o)

Do you draw inspiration from things around you? :o)

Diva Challenge #153

This week the Diva’s Challenge was to use Jailed Johnny in a drawing.

I enjoyed exploring different variations on the pattern as the image developed. Sometimes concentrating inside the C’s and sometimes outside. It’s a versatile little pattern :o)

Gingerbread Men in Space!

20140201-230848.jpgI asked Meredith to draw me a random shape to start with and it looked like a gingerbread man to me!

As I filled in the little men someone exclaimed “Gingerbread men in space!” So then it all became pretty little stars :o) Euca made a very pretty border :o)

Image Sizes

This post might become a little technical, just to warn you :o)

The Doodle Patterns app was 42 meg when I released it and has already grown in size with the new patterns. Each new pattern increases this size rather more than I’d like. At the current rate my desire to have hundreds of patterns is just unfeasible! I doubt many of you want to fill your devices just with patterns! :o)

Well, maybe some of you wouldn’t mind too much! But if it gets much bigger new users might be a bit wary of installing, and I don’t want that!

Chris spent some time this morning playing with file formats for me to see what could be done. By passing my drawings through a program that turns them into vectors they get cleaner and can be saved to a much smaller file size!

before after

I don’t think it spoils the hand drawn look too much and it reduces the files size considerably! More than 75% smaller in many cases! :o)

It will also enable me to standardise the colour used to show the new step.  I started with orange, but then lost my orange pen.  I tried purple for a while but it tends to scan a little dark.  I think I like the new blue the best :o)  Using this method I’ll be able to recolour them all to match :o)

So the next update to Doodle Patterns can contain more patterns, be consistently coloured and yet take up less space on your device! How cool is that?!? :o)
